Beach Day for Baby!
Do you miss the fun and excitement of going to the beach but worried about your infant downing buckets of sand? Try this edible sand sensory bin instead!
What you’ll need:
stale crackers or cereal (cheerios work great, but anything will do!)
a food processor or blender
measuring cups and spoons
large plastic bin or Tupperware container (to put it all in)
optional: beach toys or large sea shells (to make it extra fun if you’ve got ‘em!)
What to do: Add any box of stale crackers or cereal to a food processor or blender (both work well!) and pulse until it resembles sand. Add the mixture to a plastic bin or Tupperware container with measuring cups and spoons, and beach toys or large shells you have on-hand. Once you’re ready to go, set up your taste-safe sand sensory bin in a shady spot outside with your little beach bum and enjoy together!
Why is sensory play important?
Babies learn and develop new connections in their brain through play. Sensory play also helps babies to learn more about the world around them and supports language development as they learn to respond to different stimuli. Babies can enjoy simple sensory play such as touching different objects and surfaces and hearing how different materials create varied sounds (Exploring the Benefits of Sensory Play for Children (2021).
