Build Your Bookshelf Series: A Kite for Melia
This month Build Your Bookshelf recommendation is… A Kite for Melia by Samuel and Freda Narh!
I am THRILLED to share this month’s Build Your Bookshelf Series recommendation as we wrap up Peculiar Pets month! Our kiddos LOVED learning about house pets in August and this picture book recommendation is the perfect staple to celebrate the furry friends that are near and dear to our hearts.
As quoted by Kikus Reviews, A Kite for Melia is “a well-told, offbeat story that blends themes of perseverance and healing”; a message we all can benefit from in some way or another. For readers all across the board, Melia's story is a universal one that will bring joy to readers of all ages.
Dealing with Loss
If you or your child has ever lost a furry friend, this book delicately introduces ideas of loss and acceptance while using soft words woven with meaning. In A Kite for Melia, the main character, Melia, draws deep connection to her pet, Ginger, who she has lost and this love helps her find courage and perseverance as she overcome challenges learning to make a kite.
Connection to the Authors
Freda and Samuel Narh have spent many years connecting with the Columbus community and we are over-the-moon excited that their newest book has hit the shelves at local bookstores and beyond! Freda was a dedicated infant teacher at Little Dreamers, Big Believers 5th Avenue for many years and has built many meaningful friendships with families and teachers along the way. As a personal friend of Freda, it has been a JOY to watch her budding career as a children’s book author come to life with her first publication, A Kite for Melia.
