Build Your Bookshelf Series: We All Play
This month Build Your Bookshelf recommendation is… We All Play by Julie Flett!
With Thanksgiving (LITERALLY) right around the corner, the topic of gratitude and thankfulness is at the forefront of many conversations we ‘re having with our little ones in the classroom and at home too! This book is a perfect addition to build your collection and re-read over and over again as a reminder to celebrate play all year round!
Another reason why we love this book is that it illustrates and celebrates “our interconnection with the creatures who share our world.” —Kirkus Reviews
When celebrating Thanksgiving with young children, we at Balanced Family Academy choose to focus most on instilling an understanding of what it means to be thankful and how to express gratitude for the beauty in the world we live in. In addition, we choose to celebrate and explore Native American Culture and cherish the values and practice of being one with nature as a cornerstone to our November curriculum. This book is a perfect staple to spark conversation, establish a strong connection to Native American culture through the universal love for play, and invite curiosity to learning a new language with the glossary of Cree words for wild animals at the back of the book!
To snag your copy, order online from our favorite local bookstore, Cover To Cover. Or, support local by checking out some of the other last minute Thanksgiving books (including those pictured below) at Cover To Cover Children’s Books located in the heart of UA, at 2116 Arlington Ave. We absolutely LOVE Melia, the owner, and you are sure to find something special and enjoy a warm greeting from her or the other friendly staff if you stop by!
