Show Ohio some love with “B.F.A.”…

It’s Valentine’s Day Week and I’m getting really excited!

See? So excited.

So, why am I so excited? No, it’s not because February is the beginning of Skunk mating season (although that is cool, too… and skunk babies are super cute… google that!). No, it’s not because of Valentine’s Day dinner plans. It’s because I’m getting ready to launch a super exciting new project here at BFA & LDBB… and it’s called:

B.F.A.

Wait… what? That’s confusing. Well, you want to know what Project B.F.A. stands for?

Pretty… and clever!

Yay butterflies! Our schools are partnering with Peter Harrington, owner of local business Native Landscaping and Consulting, LLC. He has done fabulous work at our BFA - Clintonville location, removing a bunch of crazy looking grass, shrubs, and weeds and replacing them with a native edible landscape… healthy native plants that feed the birds, bees, butterflies… and kiddos!

Now, he’s offering you and the rest of the Balanced Family Academy & Little Dreamers Big Believers family a wonderful deal:

For about $300, Peter will come prep a 50+ square foot area of your backyard and plant it with a wide range of Ohio-native flowers! These flowers will bloom throughout Late Spring, Summer, and Fall with the look of the garden changing with the seasons. These plants are native, meaning they grow here naturally so they’re very low maintenance and can hold their own against weeds. He can prep, plant, and cleanup the butterfly garden for you in about 2 hours… then, BAM! You’ve got a magical spot ready-to-go!

Can you imagine you and your kiddo sitting in the middle of a butterfly party?

So magical! But wait… won’t it bring… BEES?!

Bees can also be Blue, Red, or Purple too… really!

Seriously. My daughters and I regularly pet bumblebees (gently) and have multiple sweat bees on our arms licking us! They really only sting if you’re squishing them! And Yellowjackets, Wasps, and Hornets? Mostly focus on eating garden pests (yay!) and are mainly aggressive by their hive… which they won’t make in this garden.

So… let’s grow! Together!

Here’s a bunch of reasons why a Butterfly Garden would be AWESOME for you, your fam, and your neighborhood:

  1. More native plants and animals nearby reduce stress and improve mood/brain function for children & adults

  2. Butterflies, Bees, Birds and more are in trouble… they can’t use grass lawns and are running out of space to live and eat!

  3. Planting a Butterfly Garden shows your neighbors, and more importantly your kids that you care!

  4. They’re, like, really pretty

  5. Peter is a local entrepreneur and supporting his business supports Columbus!

  6. You’ll also attract hummingbirds with this garden… and they’re just completely magical

  7. Seriously… so pretty!

An example of a Monarch Butterfly garden… I told you they’re pretty!

Installation starts in April/May, but don’t wait… get on Peter’s calendar today! (Hey, that rhymed!)

You can contact him here! Buzz buzz… and, what sound does a butterfly make? Flap flap?

Can you just imagine your kiddo being able to go out and do THIS in the backyard?

Wait, one more thing!

They’re also a wonderful sponsor of our school gardens and Team HOPE 2022

Want to take a lovely, nature-iffic family trip this Summer without leaving Ohio? Well, there’s LOTS of great places to go… but if you want to see Butterfly gardens TO THE MAX, checkout Butterfly Ridge down in Rockbridge, Ohio! They’ve got woods, they’ve got prairie… and they’ve QUADRUPLED their local butterfly populations!! Owners Chris & Kris Kline will be happy to show you how and help you do so yourself!
